WE THE PALMETTO: Meet the Candidate: Alan Wilson (for SC governor)

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – After 14 years of being South Carolina’s chief prosecutor, Attorney General Alan Wilson now has his eyes set on the state’s highest office.

Wilson became one of the first Republicans to announce a run for governor back in June of this year, positioning himself as the law-and-order candidate with a military background to back it up.

“I think it’s important that you recognize the governor as the commander in chief of the National Guard. I’m the only person here who’s actually served in the military, with nearly 30 years of active military service in the National Guard, including a combat tour,” Wilson said. “I have served and led soldiers in combat. When you’re electing someone to be governor, you want someone on day one who knows how to command and lead our military forces as well as make serious decisions.

With his lengthy legal background and decades of work with law enforcement across the state, it’s no surprise Wilson has locked up the endorsements of a majority of South Carolina’s sheriffs.
