COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) — Attorney General Alan Wilson is leading a 19-state coalition in filing a “friend-of-the-court” brief with the U.S. Supreme Court to protect the rights of parents.
The coalition argues that parents’ constitutional rights must be protected in decisions involving their children.
“Parents hold the primary role in the upbringing of their children,” Attorney General Wilson stated. “Any effort by a school or district to withhold information regarding a child’s well-being is a violation of the constitutional rights of parents.”
The amicus brief supports a mother who alleges her child’s school withheld information about her daughter’s gender identity.
