COLUMBIA, S.C (WCIV) — Alan Wilson has joined a bipartisan coalition of Attorneys General urging Congress to advance the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA), calling it a needed safeguard against growing online risks to children, according to a release from his office.
Wilson is among 40 attorneys general who signed a letter sent to House and Senate leaders ahead of potential consideration of the House version of the Bill, which would limit states’ authority to establish their own online safety regulations.
Wilson has repeatedly pressed national lawmakers to respond to rapid changes in technology, including advances in artificial intelligence and evolution of social media, citing the dangers those shifts pose to minors in an age where social media is being used more than ever.
“Our children are facing a new frontier in the online world,” Wilson said.” “The Kids Online Safety Act allows us to be better stewards of their futures by protecting them from the emotional and mental dangers that are increasingly present on social media.”
