COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) — Attorney General Alan Wilson has joined other AGs from 21 states in supporting a lawsuit from Louisiana that challenges a Biden-era rule expanding access to abortion pills by mail and telehealth.
“This is about protecting life, but it’s also about state sovereignty,” Attorney General Wilson said. “What good does it do for one state to pass a law banning something, like chemical abortion drugs, if another state is still allowed to mail them into our state?”
The lawsuit targets a 2023 action by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that lifted long-standing restrictions on the abortion drug mifepristone.
The change allows doctors in one state to prescribe abortion pills to patients in another state.
